HearSay is pleased to now be able to offer additional testing to add to our test battery. Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) testing is used for various reasons. It determines how the inner ear and brain pathways are responding to sound. The test is often used in young children where typical test responses cannot be conducted. The ABR is also used to rule out hearing loss along the brainstem or brain pathway.
Auditory Brainstem Response testing is an non-behavioural test which means the person being tested does not need to respond to the sounds since responses are obtained by measuring the brain’s response to sound through brainwave measurements. In this way, it is often used for testing babies and children who would not otherwise be able to give reliable responses when they hear a sound through more conventional test measures.
This test is most often found in the hospital setting which requires a referral by a physician. The wait for such testing can be lengthy, upwards of 9-12 months. HearSay is pleased to be able to offer this testing as part of their diagnostic repertoire which can generate results in a more timely manner.
